The Wendron 'Goats'

Under 11 Football Team from Wendron FC 2011/12 season

Sun 29th – Red& Blue Matches

Blues 5 – Helston Potters 3

I was not able to see this match, but Ian and Matt tell me it was a close game all through, with end to end football.   All the Goats gave their best and played intelligently through out the game.  Well played Dale, first time between the sticks this season.

Reds 3 – Hayle 1

After all the rain and weather recently it was good to find the Hayle pitch in perfect condition, firm ground with short grass.  The Reds started well and soon were pressurising on the Hayle goal.  Unfortunately we were dragged forward too far forward and a quick clearance from Hayle caught us with too much space for Hayle to run into and a well taken shot saw them take the lead.    However the Goats continued to play the football they are good at and  patiently waited for the equalizer as chance after chance was made.  Still 1-0 down at half time there were a  few anxious faces, but they just needed to keep playing the same way , but just to keep a few in defence  and not be all dragged to far forwards.  The equaliser soon came after a some great passing and perseverance.       Soon we scored a second goal and then the team had to concentrate on consolidating their defence and get the balance correct between defending the lead but not dropping back too far and keep the game in the other half.  Floyd, Owen and Mike did a great job in defence checking all the Hayle counter attacks and taking the pressure off Dylan in goal to maintain the 2-1 lead.  The final goal, finely stuck by Jay, in the final minutes saw a sigh of relief from all the parents and players.  As with a few minutes to go they felt comfortable holding onto the lead.
