Its the end of the season matches for both teams – Hurrah !!
Reds 4- Holmans 1
The last league match of 2011/12 U11 Serie A was certainly one of the mostly closely matched contests of the season, considering no places were at stake. Neither team could improve the positions going into the match, so perhaps that is why it was played without fear by any of the teams. Although I saw no Rainbows or Bicycle kicks on goal. So those Wii prizes still remain unclaimed this season. Holmans had the better first half with most of the possession and pressure however again Owen and Floyd had an immense games in defence as the only boys with experience playing in defence. Luckily all the first time goalies were able to ride out their stint in goal as each Wendron player took 5 minutes between the sticks starting with the forwards. By half time the chances were falling to both teams but great defence kept the score at 0-0. However a well struck indefensible low shot sliced through and Holman’s were 1-0 at half time. The second half started very much like the 1st, but now the Wendron goalies were players who had been between the sticks in previous matches and as players were being put into their normal playing positions, slowly the Reds began to take control of the match and the equalizer came after a well executed run and pass. However Holmans were always dangerous especially at corners where their superior height could be used. However Floyd with Zak, Dylan and Owen’s assistance kept the goal clear as Holman’s looked to score the winner after sustained pressure. With only 10 minutes to go it was still 1-1 and that is what the score should probably stayed to reflect the efforts put in by both teams, but in the last minutes Wendron scored their chances, while at the other end Holman’s went wide, hit the cross bar or were miss hit. So it ended 4-1. A game that had no consequence was probably the hardest , and with most passion the Reds had played all year.
Congratulations to the Reds for a great first and unfortunately the last season in mini-soccer. You came second in the League after Trevenson. You scored with the highest number of goals by a margin of 7 with an average of 2.9 per match, the important thing was to score more than you conceded and with 22 conceded we achieved that. A great result from a team of 11 wannabe Van Percie. It was a pleasure to be your manager. There was not a match where any of you did not give your best which is all we can ask. All that remains is to play 1 or 2 Cup matches before we play a few mini soccer tournaments in the Summer for fun. In the meantime we’ll start preparing for Youth Football. Big Goals, Big Pitches and More Space.
Blues 3 – St Ives 0
This was also last match for the Blues in the U11 La Liga. However positions were at stake so unlike in the Reds match, no chances could be taken with players in unfamiliar roles. The Blues didn’t need telling that they had to play football from the off. None wanted a repeat of their performance against St Ives earlier in the year. And so it happened. Although the first goal took its time coming, the football going forward was as good as any played this year with good vision and decision making, and unlike previous matches, the defence was tight and scene of thorough concentration. A fine pass through to Toby who was playing a great game, left him no room to miss the goal and with a 1-0 cushion tenseness in the Blues game disappeared, if not in me. However St Ives are always difficult to pen in and the Blues rode their luck on a few occasions, but in the main were hungrier and wanted the ball more as they closed down the St Ives breaks. As the second half drew on a second goal eased the pressure and opened up the Blues play even more and this began to stretch the St Ives defence and unforced errors began to creep in. Yeshe demonstrated his dead ball skill again to loft another free kick over the wall and into the net. The final whistle denied him again as 4 reds passed their way forward at pace in a well worked move.
With no more matches to play we can’y improve on 3rd place but neither can we be overtaken by anybody. This year in 14 matches you scored 48 goals averaging 3.4 per game. Time will tell if Charlestown score more , as they have 2 matches left. So congratulations to the 8 Blues for a great season, where you all played no matter the weather or illness.
TIMES have changed to allow U8 to have a friendly at 10am -
The Blues are on first – 10.30 11am Kick Off aginst St Ives. An important match iff we are to confirm our 3rd place in the League. If any one can’t make it please let me know. Sausage and Chips afterwards
Blues are on second – 11.30 12 noon Kick Off against Holmans. The result will make no differance to the league rankings for either team so I have agreed with the Holmans Manager that we will play 9v9 or even perhaps 10 v 10 so that everyone gets a good game and is not left on the substitute bench for too long. Sausage and Chips afterwards.
